How to Remove Anti-Theft Tag
Inspect tag to determine how it is constructed. There are two basic types of security tags, which operate like large, flat clothespin. opened tag slips over edge of garment and is secured by steel pin with round, plastic button on one end. button and pin are inserted through tag and snapped to lock. One type of tag merely attaches to garment. Another contains small vial of ink that will permanently stain clothing if broken.
Pry up edge of round button on one side of security tag using flat-blade screwdriver or point of ice pick. button is attached to steel pin with ridges along its length to prevent pin from pulling out without struggle.
Melt round button holding pin with butane cigarette lighter if it will not pry up with screwdriver. Take care not to let melting plastic spill on clothing by holding tag downward.
Use wire cutters to clip straight pin beneath round plastic button, or use screwdriver to pry pin loose from tag.
Open tag and discard.
